Auto updates take time. Notifications are sent out at varying intervals to balance the load on the servers.
Therefore everyone will not receive notification at the same time.

avast should update when you start up your computer (like in v4.8 ). I don't think everybody is starting their computer at the same time...
this update problem is the reason I let go avast. maybe I give it another try later this year.

Yes was defeninte bug in 5. As i am on dual boot xp on large hard drive one partition has 4.8 on the other one has version 5 on. 4. 8 updates automatically every time i am online. Cannot be server problem. New version appears to be working so far!

Have you tried 5.0.396, which is now the official release?

What works for me...suggested by another user here on the forum.

Engine and Virus Definitions-------Set on Automatic Update
Program--------Ask When An Update ls Available
Update Parameters-----Leave Both Options Unchecked
Proxy Settings-------Auto Detect.

I also was able to do manual updates, but not automatic ones until I changed to the above settings. Good luck.
