Windows Vista Security Center and Avast! Free Antivirus
« on: January 30, 2010, 04:48:42 PM »
Hey there everyone. I'm working on a friend's laptop and as part of that I had to completely re-install Windows Vista and so this time I'm starting from the ground up with a clean OEM edition (no salesware included preinstalled) and of course Avast! Free Antivirus 5.0. I've also installed Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D for further layers of protection against threats. The computer is a Compaq laptop, running Windows Vista on an AMD Athlon 64 x2 1.7ghz processor and 1gb of RAM.

So... when I first installed Avast everything was fine and peachy, now that I check on the status of updates and stuff this morning the Windows Security Center is now saying that Avast is reporting that it is turned off even though the user interface is telling me that it's running. Any ideas on how or why this would be happening and possible solutions would be much appreciated. Thanks.
