Avast v5.0.396 and Online-Armor++ have a conflict!
« on: February 02, 2010, 03:31:24 PM »
Vista Home Premium.  Updated Avast Free to v5.0.396.  Since the update, with Online-Armor++ v4.0.0.15 (Anti-virus module always disabled and with both applications in each other's exclusions list), Firefox 3.6 cannot render pages if the O-A Firewall and Avast Web Shield are enabled.  If either O-A Firewall or Avast Web Shield is disabled pages render normally.  The problem also exists with O-A Web Shield disabled, only disabling the firewall rectifies the situation.  Also, cached pages do render with both enabled.

Works fine for me with Firefox 3.6, OA 4.0.0.15++ as well as the 4.0.0.20++ beta, Avast! 5.0.396 Pro and Free, Vista Ultimate and Home Premium on two different machines. OA firewall and Avast! web shield both enabled. OA AV also enabled. Maybe something else in the mix too?

Check on OA firewall rules if you have  the following ports enabled and if NOT, manually creat them:

Update!  I ran the O-A Safety Check Wizard and all is well.  Now after the Avast update O-A did alert that it updated its data base also but apparently not.  Second consideration is that periodically O-A seems to "forget" some settings as has been reported (at least O-A Premium) so we'll see how this goes after some reboots!
