Avast!'s updates are kind of slow compared to others.

Well, we ourselves read in this forums the table of responses...
Sometimes Symantec and McAfee were slower than our beloved avast  8)
Time of reaction can be compared with push updates Technology that we, the Pro users, have?  :P

Speaking of reaction times:
http://itmanagement.earthweb.com/columns/executive_tech/article.php/3316511

Almost all the "big ones" are at bottom of the list. Symantec, McAfee, Panda, Trend Micro etc... avast! is not so bad, not bad at all.

I don't know what this feature is.

Push iAVS is a special kind of update available only in Professional version.
Seems to be an exclusivity of avast! Enjoy.

Sometimes, it might be very important to perform the update as soon as possible (e.g. when a new virus starts to spread heavily). With push iAVS, it is possible to start the update remotely, on the request of ALWIL Software specialists. The request is done by a special e-mail message. avast!, checking the incoming e-mails, will recognize the message and automatically start the update.

Enable. Enables the push iAVS function

Add information about performed action into e-mail. If you select this option, avast! will add a note to the message saying if and how the update was performed.

Registration. The push iAVS service (Professional version only) must be activated by registration. After clicking on the link, an on-line form will open in your browser; here, it is necessary to enter the e-mail address that messages to start iAVS will be sent to.

All I have to say is HA! I have been called rude for calling jack a$$es out that only come here to cause trouble.  I swear there is such a thing as MANNERS, I think the forum leaders here are pretty lenient.  I have seen people get banned at other forums for so much less.  This is supposed to be a POSITIVE place to get help, and discuss Avast!  Not a forum for rude b@st@rds that simply want to get a rise out of a community of friends.  Yes, everyone likes CONSTRUCTIVE critism but no one like destructive cristism.  The guy that started this link says it Sucks! points to one reference and leaves.  I got something he can suck.  Kobra seems so very condesending like Douglas said, he shows nothing except scores that for all we know he made up in his head.  I mean really who has that much time on their hands, I have a job, go to college, play games and do family video editing.  Hunting down a testbed of  "30,000" virus's and constantly changing AV's while constantly formatting a hard drive seems like a lot of work.  Even I get PM's discussing this dude or pointing to his links.  Good riddance, see ya later, don't come back on my account.

Before you all start bashing me, think about it.  We come here to discuss Avast!  We answer questions to help others, check out some of my other links, we listen to constructive cristism (until it becomes destructive) we are a band of brothers and we will defend each other and our CHOICE of product.  I have used other products I HAVE CHOSEN AVAST!

This is my kind of man !!! KezzerDrix, I admire you !!!

This is best example of the way we all should think. These forums are ment to be like help forums. Their name says that in the first place - SUPPORT FORUMS... but it looks like there is more and more people who found these forums to start flamming and bashing other users only...

We are unite, oh so unite !!!

KezzerDrix - I'm not gonna argue with you, I'm at your side. Finally someone has guts to say it aloud, and you did it my friend !!!

We all are here - Technical, Techie101, MacLover2000, CoJo, DavidR, Chameleon, bbfi, MikeBCda, Bob,3160, Hurricane, Minacross, Miss Yuna, radicalb21, RejZor, shgoh, Tipton, dwarden, humble myself, whole Alwil team, and bunch of great newbie avast! users which we must not forget - they are avast! future !!! Sorry if I forgot to mention someone... you all are in my thoughts...

Also this is interesting

Some of the programs were able to detect some of the viruses in the testing period heuristically — without needing an update. Ikarus, Quickheal, and Virusbuster were able to do this with the Dumaru.Y virus, whereas Norman and RAV were able to do it with Bagle.B.

Kobra what do you have to say about Quick heal's Herustics now?

Wow, now thats mature, its amazing the things that are allowed on this forum (the whole suck reference is pretty bad kid)... You talk about manners, then post a atrociously bad 14 year old tempertantrum message like that????   .. Now stop PM'ing me,  so I don't get anymore emails sent to my hotmail account telling me to come here and read this rubbish.  I'll have to find a way to turn that off.

Oh, and dippy,

1) I don't format my hard drive.. I use MS VPC, and can have 5-10 PC's loaded onto my desktop. If that doesn't suit me, I have 3 other spare 2-3ghz machines here I can use as testbeds.
2) I didn't "Hunt down" my 30k samples, they were sent to me by a friend that works in an AV lab for one of the AV companies.
3) Sorry you don't have time.. I do... I'm not some starving college kid with a bad attitude, and pent up anger about something - only god knows what.

Maybe, maybe... but that's much better than act like some agressive brat, whose only aim is to put down avast! and it's users... no one wants that.

We are way ahead of you my friend... we are trying to help each other, not to blame and backbite... as I said, we all have to calm down about this...

I just suggest Alwil moderators to close this thread, 'cause we tried everything to calm this thing down... I tried everything, I spoked nicely without using any single bad word... nothing helped, so I don't know what else to do... I'm sorry, but we all have more important tasks in here than playing some stupid childish argue-game.

We like avast!, you don't... How simple is that ?

Um, he has helped Avast! users before, and he's just being honest.  Again, you guys start the arguing - brought him here (by emailing him) and then when he responds you say he's an asshole.  I'm thinking Kobra is definitely right here you guys do need to grow up.

Staind, what's your problem, ha ? Aren't you maybe Kobra2 ?  ::) His second himself ? Multiple personality, so you are taking his side so strong without any visible reason... what's best of all, no one is forcing him to leave. We asked him nicely to stay, but to change his approach in this forum. No one said, he must think of avast! as best antivirus ever. That's my opinion and opinions of 98% of users who gathers in this forum. These forums are support forums, and if someone has nothing helpful to say, I really don't see why he bothers to stay here. Remember, these forums are not meant to be flamming forums...

I'm asking moderators again to close this thread once for all... this becoming so silly, just like chidls play... my father is stronger than your father... we don't need that. If you don't like this product, very simple... try to find some flamming forum or go to Norton forums... maybe you'll find better support there  ::), and maybe you'll find better friends... but, I doubt that... you guys are here just to make fights. People can recognize it, and they don't like it wherever you go... believe me.

OK here's some facts:

1. avast is NOT the best AV program on the planet (detection-wise).

2. The purpose of this forum is to provide (technical) support for avast users. Comments/suggestions are also welcome as far as they stay on topic.

3. It's perfectly OK to question avast's capabilities on this forum. We're not a riligious sect that wants to silence everyone who's not exactly sure about the product.

4. Posts about mutual antipathies of forum users will not be tolerated.

5. I'd recommend everyone to take it easy -- it's just an AV, OK??? ;)

Howgh!
