Fewer but yet still some random freezes
« on: February 04, 2010, 08:53:41 PM »
Dear Forum,

Although the new version 5.0.396 is not freezing as much, I am still experiencing random freezes.

Usually when Firefox is open or when manually activating the 'update programme' function.

When will this be sorted?

Yesterday's evening VPS (plus a reboot) is another try to solve it.

Wow! A response from Vlk! I didn't expect that? :O Thank you very much! I was getting a little down and sad at Avast's continued random freezes. However that response lifted my spirits!

How can I be sure that the updates downloaded and installed successfully, when the updates freeze and I am forced to manually reboot?

I manually tried the update function last night and tonight. It froze on both occasions after reaching 'webshield' in step 3 for the 'update programme' function.

When I rebooted, Avast started normally and a retry of the update function returned that 'Avast is already up-to-date'.

Currently Avast says:

Programme version: 5.0.396
Virus definitions version: 100204-1
Secured: Your system is fully protected.

More random freezes occurring. Seems to be the automatic and manual update.

Try disabling MBAM 1.44 (resident protection module enabled) and using it as an on demand scanner until this is totally resolved.

I shall do that.

However, I must say I am unhappy about it.

Go back to 4.8 while the bug is worked out.  I'm not going to let malware(disabling the mbam resident protection) attack my computer just to update to this 5.0 avast.  Sorry, not going to happen.
