Services suddenly stopping in 2 separate PCs
« on: February 20, 2010, 02:30:05 AM »
Avast Services stop suddenly in 2 different PCs and at different times. Advice appreciated, first time
ever in years of use that Avast has become disabled without my intervention.

From Event viewer:

1st error: Faulting application AvastSvc.exe, version 5.0.396.0, time stamp 0x4b60d4b6, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e038c0, exception code 0xe06d7363, fault offset 0x0001e124, process id 0x568, application start time 0x01cab19ab3072c7e

2nd error: The avast! Antivirus service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).

3rd error: The avast! Mail Scanner service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).

4th error: The avast! Web Scanner service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).

5th error: Faulting application javaw.exe, version 6.0.180.7, time stamp 0x4b2aa6d3, faulting module java.dll, version 6.0.180.7, time stamp 0x4b2ad748, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00005875, process id 0xb50, application start time 0x01cab1ca8aebe5ce.

Well the 1st and 5th errors the problem wasn't avast:

The faulting application is a bit of a red herring in many cases as this just happens to be the process using the faulting module when that crashed/failed, etc.

In the first it happened that avastSvc.exe was using faulting module kernel32.dll when that had a problem.

In the 5th avast isn't even involved at all javaw.exe (possibly a P2P application using it) and the faulting module java.dll, neither of which are avast files.

As for the others there really isn't any information to be able to offer much advice.
e.g. OS of both systems, if both systems are using the out of date avast program version 5.0.396 (then I suggest you manually update to 5.0.418), any common security applications other than avast, etc. ?
Windows 10 Home 2004 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 20.8.2432 (build 20.8.5684.602) UI-1.0.566/ WinPatrol+/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

The first one was avast! - and numbers 2, 3, and 4 are just consequences of number 1, I think.

Do you have a file called unXXXXXXXXX.mdmp (X are some numbers) with timestamp corresponding to the crash in c:\ProgramData\Alwil Software\Avast5\log folder? If yes, can you please upload it to
Code: [Select]
ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming?
