Reregistration
« on: February 11, 2010, 10:16:03 PM »
I tried to reregister and got an error message. Is there any way to find out if it went through or not, and if it didn't what do I do to reregister.

  Thanks

What avast version are you using 4.8 or 5.0 (free or pro) ?

What error ?
How/what were you trying to register ?

Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Thanks for answering. I'm using 4.8 home It just said that an error occured. I was trying to reregister. I was told I have 18 days to reregister before my Avast expires. I don't know why it would, it's a free version.

Yes, but where did the error occur, when trying to complete the on-line registration ?
Or when trying to enter the registration key ?

The version is free but you have to register and that gives a free period of updates, then you need to re-register again. The new avast 5.0 process whilst you still need to register it is done through the program User Interface (UI).

You could also try the SSL Registration Page (avast! 4.x only): https://secure.avast.com/scripts/register.php?lang=ENG. Select the My registration key has expired, I need a new one option and complete the form.

Yes, while I was trying to complete the on-line registration. How can I upgrade for 5.0 version? Would it be better to upgrade to the 5.0 version and if so, how do I upgrade it.

Download a full installer from http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download#tab4 and save it to your hard disk where you can find it later.

Once downloaded run the installation file and it will install over 4.8 recording the registration information and removing 4.8 in the process. You will need to reboot after the installation, during the installation you may be asked if you want the Google Chrome browser if you have it already or don't want it just answer no.

You will still have the same time frame left as it converts directly, so you will have to register, but this should be easier, check out this how to registration page - http://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus.php.

David, I got an email from Avast, telling me that to upgrade to 5.0 I have to delete my Avast, and then redownload it, to get 5.0. and then click on register and then register now. I don't have register now, so I went to the webpage for Avast and filled out the form. So far I haven't received the key. I'm afraid of deleting Avast and then getting a virus while downloading it again. Do I really have to delete it.

Thanks

Well that is strange as the official site recommended installing over 4.8.

What they said is also the wrong way round, you should never uninstall first and then go and get the latest version:
1. you should always get the latest version and save it to your hard disk (and presumably you saved it already).
2. disconnect from the internet so there is a very minimal risk.
3. uninstall the current version and reboot.
4. then install the latest version, it will ask for a reboot.
5. do as they suggest and register via the UI.
