HELP says AVAST is NOT running...shield is UNREACHABLE

I purchased the PRO a month ago, so I know it isnt expired (its for a yr) But today its not running. I try to udate and says AVAST IS NOT RUNNING. I try to CLICK FIX IT and nothing happens. Says protection status: UNKNOWN.
Shield is: UNREACHABLE.

I have no idea how to fix this.
 I tried to log into my account with Avast and it says INVALID.
BUT I still have my email with my login on it so I know its the right one.

Can someone HELP PLEASE.

have you tried repair?

For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

Yes I tried repair and update and I just get an error. Can I uninstall and reinstall and not lose my license?

I've had a problem a couple times where the Shields will not restart after temporarily disabling them. Usually just restarting the service through Task Manager does the trick. Although I'd say this is a serious bug.

Try this:

  • Double click avast! tray icon
  • Click Settings
  • Click Troubleshooting
  • Put a check beside Load avast! services only after loading other system services
  • Reboot and post a feedback if this works

this worked for me after I got a virus of a rogue windows security program.

open Avast > Scan Computer > Boot Time Scan > Enable > Reboot Computer
