Is avast 5 , safe to use now?
« on: February 14, 2010, 05:24:45 PM »
Sorry to ask, but I tried Avast 5 for 1 month ago.
My PC crashed, and I had some difficulties restoring it.
So I turned to Avast 4.8 again.

I have 2 questions.

1. How long will Avast 4.8 be supported ?
2. Is Avast 5, behaving properly now ?

I have a HP Pavilion dv9700 notebook.
Vista Home Premium Danish.

1.  I have seen estimates of 6 months to the end of 2010, but no official word yet.
2.  Has for most for some time, unless you discover yet another unknown incompatibility.  Crashes were (mostly) solved a couple of releases ago.  What happened to you before?  What other security software are you using?
Best practice now seems to be as in http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=55161.msg469635#msg469635 .

Don't know if you wanted me to post in the other forum, but since its so long time ago,
I don't see any point in posting a minidump error now.
I have MBA and SAS thats it. Both free versions, so no realtimescanners. Ooh and Windows Defender.
Regarding what happend.. I got BSOD ;D
Only way around was safe mode, uninstalled Avast 5, reinstalled 4.8.
Everything fine again.

I'm using Avast 5.0.418 in Vista with no issues. I found it to be enough reliable.
May the FOSS be with you!

I find Home edition stable now. Though I'm having still having endless reboot on the Internet Security edition. I'm on XP. Hope it helps.
