I'm a little confused about compatibility between v5 and 2000. My wife's system is a second-hand antique running 2000 (don't know which SP, but I think it's the "current" one), and I installed 4.8 on that about a year ago. Since she doesn't have internet access, with its attendant perils, I've simply downloaded and run the VPS-update installer for her once or twice a month and run an on-demand full scan then (I keep all resident shields active, though, except for the ones specific to internet use (web, email, P2P, etc.)
On avast's product-description page, v5 is "compatible with" XP and later. However, if I click on the "system requirements" link, 2000 is also supported.
Could someone please clarify this, since it seems to be a contradiction?
Even if v5 will run on her system, I'm holding off updating from 4.8 since, judging from numerous posts here, there seems to be total confusion about whether or not (and if so, how) 5 on an offline computer can get its defs (and when appropriate, the program itself) updated.
Thanks and best.
