Should I Update?
« on: June 28, 2004, 03:20:27 PM »
Whenever a new version of Avast is released I always leave it a while before I update, so that I can avoid any problems that the Alwil team need to iron out unless the update is an urgent one then I would update immediately. What I want to know is if it's safe to update from 4.1.389 to 4.1.418, are there any problems currently affecting the newest version posted on the site?

I'd say it's safe... :)

notdarkyet,

These are my comments.  I have placed the security of my computer and files into the capable hands of the Avast Team.  They have not let me down.

Each new version/ or build is designed to "improve" or "fix" a bug that existed in a previous version even if a user does not "see" it.

I stay current on each version and build by setting my Avast to auto update.

Trying to "outguess" whether a version/build is bug free is like trying to "outguess" the stock market!  It can't be done.

If a bug develops, be assured that the Avast team will take care of it as we on the forum do our part to get it working.

Good luck and welcome.

Thanks for the replies and you have some good points Techie101. Don't think I'm criticising the Alwil team I am generally happy with Avast but know bugs can and do arise occasionaly when a new version is released, I will however take your advice into consideration for future updates.

Every update to avast has only made it a better program.

When I started using avast towards the beginning of v4.0 there were a few bugs with it on Win98SE. A couple of updates later those bugs were gone & I haven't seen any since.

I think with  software like antiviruses, It is best to update whenever there is one available.

When it comes to AV's you should always update it.  Updates can fix problems the old version had, and if new one is buggy ALWIL will get it taken care of.  :)
