Problems with Avast freezing my computer
« on: February 21, 2010, 01:37:47 PM »
Hi I hope somone can help.

I have Installed avast 4.8 on windows 2000 comp.  Had it for a few years.

In recent months It seems to take ages when switching comp for all the providers to come up before I can log on.

Secondly when it updates it freezes up my comp and even when finished it stays the same so I have to switch off comp and restart and guess what it takes ages to reload again!!

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but stays the same.  Other than probs mentioned it runs OK , I just dread an update!!

Check your computer for Malware with

Malwarebytes Antimalware http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
after install click UPDATE and run cuick scan, click on REMOVE SELECTED to quarantine anything found

SUPERAntiSpyware http://filehippo.com/download_superantispyware/
Are cookies really spyware and are they dangerous?

If anything is found come back and post the scan logs here

Have you tried some house cleaning
Cleaner http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
Defraggler http://www.piriform.com/defraggler

Have you tried the new avast 5 free http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

I hope that cures your freezing problem. If you have a second hard drive and a copy of windows I would save my files I wanted and reinstall windows. Thats what I do when I get in over my head. I have a hard drive I keep all my music and security software and drivers, codecs, pictures, story's I have written. And I just use my other hard drive for windows only. If you can't and your still having problems If you give details I will try my best to help you.

Thats a funny story about IObit and malwarebytes. LOL Some people really were buying that product I never tried it myself. And its horrible they fool there customers and steal off others, and a company that works hard like avast does to provide a free good product for people to use and then rip them off. Maybe the world will get better maybe.

Peace to you all and good day. I got to go and eat and hopefully my girl comes over. Later all
