Avast Boot-time scan not running
« on: February 23, 2010, 04:37:17 AM »
For some reason, when I set up the Boot-time scan, and choose the option to restart the computer, the computer restarts, but starts like normal, and no scan occurs. My operating system is Windows xp media center addition, and I get no errors. When I check avast(avast 5 btw), it's still set up for a scan again. Hopefully this is just a simple mistake on my part.   :-\

Also, my computer is 32 bit, so it shouldn't be that problem occurring.

Here's the OTL scan files as attachments, in case they're needed.

I'm not an expert or anything, but maybe i can help you until one comes along. it looks from these 2 entries:

O34 - HKLM BootExecute: (autocheck autochk *) -  File not found
O34 - HKLM BootExecute: (aswBoot.exe /A:"*" /L:"English" /RA:delete /archives /KBD:6) - C:\WINDOWS\System32\aswBoot.exe (ALWIL Software)

like bootscan is only scanning your A: drive(floppy).  try scheduling another bootscan , but this time select your C: drive

maaaaybe this will help, I hope so. if this doesn't work, you may try to repair Avast! by uninstalling it through add/remove programs and selecting "repair"

Well, it's set to scan these 2 areas exactly as quoted here:
"System drive"
"All harddisks"

I just did a scan with malwarebytes and found some infections and removed them, along with a few other things, so I figured it might constitute a new OTL scan. Upon doing so, I no longer get the "Extras" file for some reason. Here are the malwarebytes and OTL log of the recent scans.

It's not the solution, as boot time scanning should work, but, maybe, you can check if your computer is clean at boot time.
You can try it http://mysharedfiles.no-ip.org/avastEvangelist/avast_at_logon_by_Tech.exe (it's time limited).

I'd still like to find the solution to this, but I may try this soon, after a current problem that has come up is solved.
