The update is now officially released (as 5.0.462).
Thanks to everyone who helped testing.

Hi *,

we'll soon be releasing a new build of avast 5 Free/Pro/IS. As usual, we're making the build available for public testing before it's officially released (now version 5.0.460).

How to get it
links removed

How to install it
Just run the setup executable (links above). You can either install it from scratch, or on top of an existing avast installation (installing over both 5.0.xxx or 4.8.yyy should be fine). A reboot will be required to complete the installation.

If you already have the previous beta (5.0.447 or 5.0.454) you can go to this build by simply invoking the program update feature.

What's new
Most notable improvements include:
- important fixes related to the installation of the firewall under 64-bit Windows
- fixed a potential memory leak in the firewall
- fixed multiple issues in the sandbox (plus a few performance improvements)
- this new version is now able to communicate with avast! WHS Edition
- fixed a bug related to the inserting of license files into the program
- fixed a problem in the Outlook plugin related to inserting of notes into HTML emails
- improvements in the submission system
- improvements in the Free AV registration system
- new language packs: Greek, Slovak and Ukrainian. This makes the current number of supported languages 19

New in v5.0.454
- added access keys – the program can be easily now controlled via keyboard
- solved a problem with the “I only connect to the Internet using a dial up modem” update setting
- better handling of errors in case of real-time shield actions
- improved compatibility with Apple BootCamp
- improved default firewall rules
- low priority scans now use much less CPU (but run accordingly longer)
- components of the avast setup/update process are now digitally signed

And new in v5.0.460
- Vista/W7: solved a compatibility problem with System Restore
- solved a compatibility problem with SmithMicro Poser 8 and similar applications
- minor improvements in the GUI

Thanks much
Vlk

If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving's not for you.

not much to say... runs fine like before; other than that I was expecting new features to appear in the firewall, more control settings over sandboxing, an active anti-spam (able to move spam), and may be something going on with the behavior shield on 64 bit Windows. I guess all that is for later...

No wonder...most items of the update seem to be about fixing/registration.  So, if we don't have any of the listed problems before, we are unlikely to see significant changes.

Well, in that case, we'd better step back not to interfere with those who have something to report.  ;)

Windows 7 - 64bit - AIS.  Downloaded, installed with no problem over the top.  Never had a problem with the last build

Nuff said  ;D

In the list of changes there doesn't appear to be anything addressing the performance problems many are experiencing with the Web Shield - if that is so it's rather disappointing.

I have been using Avast Free but just upgraded to Avast IS 5.0.447. I inserted the licence file and it installed successfully, so it said. When I open avast it still shows free version at the top. Please advise.
Thanks, Don

Did you try to reboot after inserting the license?

Hi VlK  :)

I'm With.. Pondus

If i want to test the autoupdate / install, how long before that will happen ?

I'll Wait For The Update  ;)
If it goes OK on my laptop .. I'll update the desktop too.
If it doesn't go OK on my laptop .. I'll make sure I do a clean install on my desktop.

I did reboot but still shows FREE ANTIVIRUS. I am running Windows 7 X 64 with 12 gig memory. One thing I did notice is the e-mail said it would be licensed to my company but installed license had my name on it?

Resolved: Deleted free and redounloaded and installed AIS .447 and installed license. All seems OK.

Updated Pro .419 to .447 and rebooted.  Didn't have problems before so nothing new apparent yet.
