Page fault in nonpaged area

I have the latest version of Avast Home and use XP Pro + SP1.

Today I left the computer on during a pair of hours and when I came back I saw there was blue screen.

Page fault in nonpaged area

The problem was with aswMon2.sys

I don't know what could have happend. I had nothing opened and it was disconnected from internet.

Any idea of what has happened?

Do you have any other antivirus installed?
Do you have a low-level disk access application (GoBack, RestoreIt, etc.)?

Well, any other suggestion or guess?
What do you think yourself? Hardware issue? A new driver or Windows update?
What is your system file (NTFS or FAT32)?
Maybe if you post more we can guess more  8)

Please send me the newest .dmp file from the \windows\minidump folder. I'll take a look at it and get back to you.

Are you using the latest version of avast? [4.1.418]
Is this the first time such a problem happened?
How long have you been using avast?

My system file is FAT32, and I have not installed anything new.
Maybe, it was a problem with the latest VPS update (0427-0), it was installed that day, but I had not restarted the computer (it did not tell me to do so). Since I have avast, only one virus definition made me restart the computer.

I use version 4.1.418
It is the first time it has happened.
I've been using avast for almost a year.

Yes, now I have more information. When I was trying to program an scandisk for the next boot, I got an IRQ_not_less_or_equal blue screen.

Then, although it was strange that it hanged last day without doing anything, this new error points to a hardware issue, not a software issue.

So, thanks for your help Technical and Vlk, I'll try to find what's happening.

That was the newest minidump :-\


I doubt it is a driver issue, I have not changed any driver for a long time. I can check the memory modules and load failsafe settings in the BIOS.

Windows updates and software installed in the past...
Working and after the update, crash  :(
Ok, could not be but, remember, in these cases, could be software. In fact we only remember to think in hardware but, did you change your hardware since that?  ::)

No, but I changed some values in the BIOS related to AGP some time ago, that's why I whant to load de failsafe settings.
Anyway, it is strange to have problems when I'm not doing anythig instead of while playing FarCry or UT2004.

Hi,

Couple of months ago I suddenly started to get the same error message (IRQ_not_less_or_equal). I assumed it was caused by some driver but I desided to run a memtest first --> And yes, RAM was faulty.

So download, install and run for instance this memtest to make sure.

There are directions on that site.

If the test gives you a clean result, it must be a driver...
