Suggestion to improve time-controlled computer check
« on: March 07, 2010, 03:27:15 PM »
I assume that avast reads from time to time in this forum, so I post a suggestion here and would be interested to hear what other people think about it:
A good feature in Avast 5 is that you have time-controlled checks of your computer, e.g. a quick check weekly and a detailed check monthly...
This works sp perfectly well in the background that the user might not even recognise it when being busy with other tasks. So it happened to me that I even turned off my computer while the check is running...
I believe it would be a good idea if e.g. an animated symbol would appear in the taskbar while background checks are done (and if somebody would like to make it perfect, the degree of progress could be shown when the mouse is moved over the icon). A different possibility would be a message in a window - or somthing like that, I leave this to the imagination of the programmers.
Whout do you guys think about such a thing?

it's been asked several times, already during the beta testing last year... we're waiting for it  ;) ... the devs may have once said they would implement it ... later  :)

a)  Do you mean that you've scheduled Avast 5 to do this?
OR
b)  Do you mean that Avast 5 does this automatically?

If your answer is.. b
Didn't Even Know!   :o

avast 5 allow scheduling (check scanning settings).
It will be good a sign into the system tray icon that avast is performing a task. I miss the gree triangle of the avast 4.8 Pro.

Hi .. Tech & Vock :)

Oh!  ::)  You were talking about Avast 5 scheduled scans  8)

Got a bit Confused for a minute :-[

Don't Like Scheduled Scans
I'd rather just run a scan when I know I'm not going to be using my computer for a while.

Mind You!
Guess it must be confusing if you've scheduled a scan .. But you see nothing happening  :-\

Alepompa, which was the problem or the error message?
Any other antivirus installed in the computer? Which was your old antivirus?

I suggest an installation from the scratch:

1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you've run it.
5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
7. Check and post the results.

you've been told your system was infected by a rootkit preventing avast from running right ?
