I installed a new DVD-RW drive today and it reads CDs and DVDs fine. But when I tried to burn a DVD it gave me an error and couldn't do it. When I tried to burn a CD it did fine. Strange huh?

What do you think (now I use a NEC drive and CDBurnerXP program, if that helps)? :)

CDBurnerXP even burns blurays.

Easy rule to follow: if you don't have a clue what you're brabbling about - just shut up.

You said: CDBurnerXP can not write DVDs. That is just plain nonsense and obviously you didn't even know the program you were trying to talk about. That is not much of a help, it's even less.

So please just post any good ideas about things you know about, and not about those you only make up fairy tales.

"NEC DVD-RW ND-2510A" says the driver from 2001. It's an used DVD-RW drive, but it works 100% (tried it before it was removed from the previous PC). It was made in 2004, so maybe I should get a new driver (where?). Is it possible that it's even a different model (since the driver that recognised it was mad in 2001 and the DVD-RW drive itself was made in 2004)? Thank you!

Normally a CD/DVD doesn't need a specific driver, it (the driver) is supported by Win.
What OS are you using? Win XP?

Go to Control Panel, Device Manager and uninstall the drive. Reboot. Win will add the drive newly. Check if it works now.

If not maybe update the firmware of your drive: http://support.necam.com/Optical/downloads/FlashFirmware/readme.asp?ID=5

Yes, I have Windows XP and the driver was installed as soon as I installed the drive and booted the PC. And it's the right one (I checked the label, it's NEC ND-2510). So I think that the problem is not in the driver (besides, the DVD-RW worked perfectly on an even older PC with Windows XP system and same old driver). I don't think that installing new firmware will help me in any way... Hm?

Okay, so: what happens if you try to burn a DVD? What are the error-messages, if any? The symptoms?

I installed this new version into sandbox and tried to burn a DVD - with success! :)

Then I tried it again with my old version of CDBurnerXP and it did fine too! I don't know what was wrong before, maybe it was wrong that I tried to burn a DVD with 1x speed, now I did it with 2,4x and it's allright. Thank you for all your help, I hope that my new DVD-RW will do fine now. If not, I'll be back.  ;D

Why install it to a sandbox?!?
It's newer and got some pretty good features.

Because the older one works just fine and doesn't need .NET Framework. :)
