Web sheild blocking browsing. XP, Win Firewall . Disable firewall and all other anti malware and still no browsing. Disable Web Sheild and browsing fine.
Avast Free 5.0.462. Can not find ashwebsv.exe. AvastScv.exe & AvastUI.exe running in processes. Any Ideas?

The ashWebSv.exe is from avast 4.8 and isn't in 5.0, all real-time shields are under the control of avastSvc.exe.

Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?#

What other security based software do you have installed ?

The winXP firewall shouldn't be an issue as it doesn't have any outbound protection/checking.

What browser and version are you using ?
Do you use a proxy to connect to the internet ?
Have you tried other browsers ?

Was using AVG. Uninstalled via add-remove programs. I have ad aware & spybot installed but I disabled them to see if it would work that way. Using IE8, no proxy. Haven't tried any other browsers.

Huh? Unnamed product? It was Internet Explorer 8. Just tried Firefox. Same result.

So no other AV ever installed on this system then ?
As many leave remnants that could cause this type of thing even if uninstalled.

Try setting the browser to use the web shield proxy:
For IE - broadband users: - Tutorial - Web Shield Proxy Set-up for IE
For Firefox users - Tutorial - Web Shield Proxy Set-up for Firefox

Whilst the above are likely to be for earlier versions of the browsers, it should give you an idea of where to look and what to set. That's me for the night, just after 3am here.

HI,
Exactly the same problem,my configuration : xp pro sp3,comodo firewall, and after the second reboot after the update to the new version no more browsing possible (firefox, opera, internet explorer) and if i disable webshield browsing are now ok. That is very strange cause yesterday all works fine juste after the upgrade to new version, this morning same all is ok and this afternoon after the upgrade of K-Lite codec pack and one reboot, this problem appear.

Little precision,i have try to uninstall Avast and reinstalled, and it work fine but after one second reboot ,the problem reappear.

It would be worth running their uninstall tools, since you didn't say what version here is a bunch of them:
- McAfee has an uninstall tool that you could run to ensure any possible remnants are removed.
