Configuration question

In avast 5.0.462, I'd like to turn off the P2P Shield and the IM Shield.
That's easy enough to do.
But then there always seems to be a yellow exclamation mark in the tray icon, which when hovered over, says my system is not fully protected.
Is there a way to keep these two shields off and not have that icon display the exclamation mark?

If you're never going to use them, and don't want them installed at all, you can remove avast and then reinstall, choose Custom installation, and then deselect those modules.

Thanks, Alkaloid, but I'd like to keep the shields and have them disabled.
v4.8 would permit that without the system tray warning about not being fully protected.
Maybe there is a registry tweak?

No need to registry tweak.  It's in the Avast GUI.  Settings at top left of gui window.  Click on Status Bar in settings and uncheck(disable) monitoring of the shields you have disabled.

But it also turns off the real-time shields status in the Summary.

Individually, the shields show the actual status, and that is useful.  I may just let the P2P and IM Shields run.  But since I have no use for them, I'm figuring that it would help performance if they were disabled.

Not that I am having performance issues, though.  5.0 is an awesome program, from what I have seen of it so far!

Okay, do that, and turn the 2 shields off, then go to Summary, Current Status, and note that Real-time shields (all-inclusive) is depicted as OFF!

Yes, because that is a collective grouping of all the shields so it can't say you have one shield, two shields or all shields off.

I really can't understand why if you have no use for them you don't simply get rid of them and if you have use of them in the future restore them.

No need to uninstall avast first and do a custom install to achieve that either:
Using Windows Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Change; now uncheck the P2P and IM Shields (take care not to disable/uncheck essential avast shields); having done that OK your way out and those shields will have been removed.

In the future if needed go back in and enable/check them to reverse the process.

Do you have any idea what impact it would have on avast! performance if I removed those two shields?
I suppose there is one way to find out.   
I can hardly believe that the whole process of removing a shield and then adding it back in is as simple as checking or unchecking a couple of boxes in ARP.  It's great.

Almost unnoticeable as since you aren't using them they won't be using any resources, so you won't really notice.

avast is still one of the most configurable AVs out there
