I never trust any one single utility 100%. I always cross referance with other items I have installed. Yes I fired up task manager to see exactly how much memory the avast anti virus service was actually using. For some reason it was using more memory than usual. It could have been that it was working over time checking alot of files. I don't recall what task I was using my PC for at the time!  :)

Under User's FAQ link bellow you will find an explanation about avast! and Task Manager. The differences between 'Page faults', memory usage to the 'Private Bytes' (the VM Size) and 'Working Set' (the Mem Usage) NT performance counters.

There were previous threads about memory usage here.
Vlk tried to explain us a lot of time... Maybe we never learn  8)

Also just so you guys don't worry about my security, I will list what I use.  ;)

Avast AV
Ad-Aware
Ewido security suite
Zone alarm firewall.....using XP's built in untill ZA fixes its latest release!
NAT router
Spyware Blaster
Spyware Guard
Proxomitron
Practice safe surfing

And lastly, I use a software program that is more important to me than any other. I use Acronis true image. I always scan with all my utilities before making an image, so that I can revert back to a clean/stable point in time if disaster ever strikes. This program has provided a safety net that nothing else can provide. I mean who wants to spend days formatting and re-loading, when I can do it in 5 minutes!

With all that said, I do appreciate the fact you guys care enough to post your advice. It never goes un-noticed.

PS.....Alexa is gone!

Tipton, you are my kind of guy... I don't mean like I LOVE YOU, hahaha  ;D... I'm married and very happy, so any further offer will be rejected...  ;D

OK, put a joke aside for the moment... All those programs you use, it tells us that you are very aware of all those problems and pests out there. I didn't want to say that you don't have a clue about spyware or adware, but I was just worried... I thought maybe you never heard of Alexa, and that's nothing to be ashamed of. I am not the cleverest one either, so probably I miss some other nasty spyware files, so I like when someone keeps me updated... that way, aI'm up to date  :)

Btw, I wanna hear your opinion about Acronis true image. I use Norton GHOST 'cause my company has contract with them. Before we replace some systems with brand new one, we always make backups of whole systems and keep them for next 6 months... just in case someone is missing something from their old system. I also use GHOST on my system. I make backups every second week, so I can always restore last stable point if something ugly happens... much better than that stupid Windows System Restore...

Ghost is actually really good for imaging, and I had used it exclusevely before switching to True Image. The reason I switched to TI, was because I was having problems with image restores using ghost after I set up my RAID 0 array. Turns out, that Symantec admits that ghost does not support RAID, however some have had no problems with it.

I e-mailed Acronis True Image and asked if they support RAID. They replied back that they do support RAID, and listed the RAID controllers supported. I am using the Intel ICH5R controller on my P4C800E-Deluxe mobo, which was on the list. I gave it a try and it worked flawlessly. You can even image within windows, without having to boot to some DOS screen. The GUI is very user friendly, and I was able to create and restore images without even reading the help pages. I highly recommend the product.

Great review... I guess I'll give it a try. Do you know, is there any freeware (Home edition) version of that program or just paid for version ?

Cheers !

I know they have a free trial. Not sure if the trial is crippled in any way though. Heres a link to their site.

Sasha,
True Image is a great program because it makes a true image of your system.
As far as I know even Ghost doesn't do that.

Yeah, there is clone option and it does it very well... and best of all, you can start it from Windows, then it will reboot your system and finish the job from DOS...
