Windows Updates- Can they conflict with Avast?
« on: March 16, 2010, 01:02:40 PM »
I had been having lots of trouble getting Avast to work properly on my netbook. I noticed that after an update from Widows my system began to run slowly. I got the problem fixed, but I undid the updates before I fixed it. I suspect that the Malicious Malware update may be the cause. Is it possible that this caused my Avast to go into an inconsistent state and not be able to be fixed? Will I have to manually decide which updates to install?

I've never had a Windows Update cause a problem directly to Avast, but a WU could cause a problem as you describe to your system.

What I do (but don't recommend ;D) is to wait two weeks after update Tuesday, check WU for the new important/critical items and Google the KB numbers. If there are known issues they will have surfaced by that time.
