Problem with License.dat file
« on: March 11, 2010, 10:02:07 PM »
Hi i am new to the forum. I was using avast free ver 5 for the past 2-3 weeks and today i decided to purchase the Avast Intenet Security v.5 to take advantage of the discount. I uninstalled the free version through Safe mode (Im using Windows 7 home premium) and installed the AIS.
However i have 2 issues :
1- i cannot activate trial period because avast says i have no internet connection  ???
2- when i try to manually insert the license key from the dat file avast searches for an *.avastlic file and tells me that "License.dat" is not a valid avast license file  :(

as a result i cannot update my avast and use it properly. my purchase details are as follows:
- element 5 purchase code : 322239915
- ALWIL Software License File: 27733826
- i bought the product using the same email i registered for the forum

Please help me cos i was very happy with the free avast antivirus.  :'(
tnx in advance

But your element5 notification should contain (besides the licence attachment) a link for downloading your License.avastlic file valid during 7 days. Are you trying license from this link?

the link directs me to download the "License.dat" file not the *.avastlic one

That's not how it's supposed to be, but the file is the same - so you can simply rename it to License.avastlic.

i did that but it still says it is an invalid avast license file  ???
cant u just issue a new license file and email it to me. this must be a problem with element 5 reffering to the wrong files... i dunno.
