Security Update for Internet Explorer
« on: July 03, 2004, 02:05:20 PM »
If you don't use automatic update, here's the Scoop:

Critical Update for Microsoft Data Access Components - Disable ADODB.Stream object from Internet Explorer (KB870669)
Adodb.stream provides a method for reading and writing files on a hard drive. This by-design functionality is sometimes used by web applications. However, when combined with known security vulnerabilities in Microsoft Internet Explorer, it could allow an internet web site to execute script from the Local Machine Zone (LMZ). This occurs because the ADODB.Stream object allows access to the hard drive when hosted within Internet Explorer.

The patch that is now available has been tested and deployed on XP, W2K and W2K3 systems and does not require a restart.
A direct download for any system struggling with WU is located here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=4D056748-C538-46F6-B7C8-2FBFD0D237E3&DisplayLang=en

If you use IE and all users who have a windows operating system do, then it's important to update NOW.
Good Luck! My computer is up to date.... :)

I don't know... it looks like in your first post it's working now...

I just copied that link, pasted it inside *url* tabs, and that's it...

Strange, every time Windows Update tried to install this automatically, I get a sub-window stating: “The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo Testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP.  This software will not be installed.  Contact your System Administrator.”

As I am the admin. on my Win XP Pro System, is there anything I can do to get a successful download, or is there something wrong with the file?

Thank you,
=AirCeej=

Got this just a couple of nights ago. It installed on my W98SE computer without a problem ... and no need for a reboot!    :D

AirCeej, are you using windows update site or the direct download from the link above?

If you're using windows update site, are you updating any other 'driver' (not from Microsoft)?

Went fine for me too (XP-Home) from WinUpdate -- it's one of the rare ones that didn't even want a reboot afterwards.
