Trouible with avast5
« on: March 18, 2010, 10:46:52 AM »
Hello,

Im using avast 5.0.462 Pro
def: 100317-1

in my system is also installed comodo firewall (with no antivirus)
malwarebytes on demand (not enable in startup and disabled system protection)

want i want to ask is

1. why AvastSvc.exe is using max 40% cpu as in task manager while im doing nothing, and strangely if i temporary disabled all shield it raised cpu usage to as high as 90% and low as 60% cpu usage. memory usage is ranging from 40mb to 60mb. (no scheduled task)

2. why avast not reenabled itself when i choose disable for 10 minutes or 1 hour or etc

3. Why is there no option to really disable sending my computer information & files to avast server if a virus is detected?   i know there is an option to do this if a virus is detected, but this is only work for that file. and i need to keep uncheck the box every time a virus is detected.

thanks

ad 1: could be a conflict with another prog running. here avastsvc.exe usually has 0% with peaks up to only 2% when scanning. maybe a conflict with another resident-scanner...?
ad 2: don't know bout that, but why would u do so?
ad 3: i think there is, somewhere. right? but u can also block that with a firewall.

Did/Do you have any antivirus(es) before and/or alongside avast?

Quite some time, it happens to me too. I've no idea yet. We'll wait for a response from someone more knowledgeable.

You may disable it by:

Choice 1: Deselect Participate in the avast! community during installation.

Choice 2: Double click avast! 5 tray icon > Settings > Community > Uncheck Participate in the avast! community > OK
Windows 7 (64-bit) Home Premium SP1
avast! 9 RC1

When I use tools like ComboFix, installation of a software that requires disabling it for optimal results (e.g. Windows Service Packs), handle analysis of false positives and etc.

No, the only security software i have is comodo firewall, malware bytes (on demand), Spybot (on demand), sandboxie

the strange thing is, it fixed by itself.. no more trouble for now ( 0,2 cpu usage and 30mb running memory) will confirm couple more days for sure :)

unchecked, hopefully it will not send anything anymore to avast :)
