Possible Bug in avast! Internet Security 5.0.462?

Hi

I’m a Member of the German Avast-Forum.
Some Users have Problems when updateting to Version 5.0.462 or installing Version 5.0.462:
In most cases, the Problems are recognized under Windows 7.

I’ll try to explain the Situation:
On my own System (Windows 7 x64) the System freeze after updating avast! Internet Security from Version 418 to 462, when I start my System the next time.
After booting the Windows-Desktop, the CPU Load is on 100%. When I tried to suspend a Service with the Task Manager, the System freezes.
I only can stop it when I power off the Machine.
Yesterday I made another Test and install a fresh avast! Internet Security 5.0.462.
During the Installation, when installing the Firewall Component, the Installation-Process hangs. Again I had to power off the Machine to get on working with my
System.

Some other Users have a similar Problem when updating to avast! Internet Security 5.0.462 or installing this Version under Windows 7 x64: After the System starts new, they got a BSoD.

I’m afraid we can’t supply you a Minidump of the Situation of the BSoD (which Driver or Software causes the Problems).
I only have the Log of the Windows Event Viewer of my System, I can post or attach it as a Textfile.

hast du schon versucht unter einstellungen - fehlerbehandlung die option
avast! Dienste erst nach anderen Systemdiensten laden - zu aktivieren?
könnte dir/(manchen von euch) eventuell helfen.
nachdem das problem anscheinend mehrere eurer user betrifft ist es schwierig eine global gültige antwort zu geben, weil es auch auf verschiedene systemkomponenten bzw. diverse software zurückzuführen sein könnte...

Die üblichen Lösungswege habe ich bzw. die übrigen User schon durch.
Das Problem trat auch erst mit Version 462 auf, bis dahin lief die Security Suite einwandfrei.
Das Problem begrenzt sich auch auf avast! Internet Security, Professional und Free sind nicht betroffen, bisher jedenfalls.
Mein letzter Versuch, die aktuelle Version zu installieren, lief bis zur Installation der FW-Komponente problemlos und dann blieb die Installation hängen.
Wir sind jetzt grade dabei, mehr Infos über beteiligte Treiber etc. zu sammeln.
Wie ich jetzt von einem anderen User gehört habe, existiert hier schon ein Thread zu dieser Thematik, da hatte ich leider schon gepostet.
Den werd ich jetzt mal durchgehen, vielleicht sind wir dann etwas schlauer.

Edit: In dem von mir genannten Thread hier lag die Ursache wohl im FingerprintReader, daher sind wir jetzt dabei, mehr Infos zu sammeln.
Eine Lösung gab es in dem Thread bisher noch nicht.....aber wir bleiben am Ball.
Da kein Minidump erstellt wurde von Windows, vermuten wir momentan auch in Richtung Treiber als Ursacher.

My Firewall 'unplugs' (or turns off) without notifying me.  My system Windows XP, became very slow and in checking out the avast! Internet Security 5 I purchased 3-5-10 I saw the Firewall was turned off and so I turned it on.  Today I checked again the avast! IS and the Firewall was again OFF, but this time I am not allowed to turn it on.... This is very scary as I am, vulnerable, having to go online to search for answers.  Can anyone help...much appreciation for your time!

I'm afraid I can't help, but I too have been having problems with the Firewall. I can't get it to turn on at all.

Is the Effect only when you start your System?
Perhaps, this may help: Settings ---> Troubleshooting ---> load avast! Service only after loading other system services

Okay, for my own problem, I'll try to give a summary what we have tried:
To see what Program or hardware-driver causes the problem with avast, we tried to make a minidump of the situation (system freezes and BSoD), but windows did not make a dump.
On my own system, I recognized, that the installation is going on without problems until it comes to the point, that the firewall will install.
From this point on, the installation "hangs" and the cpu load go up to 100%
I start the taskmanager to see what process causes this effect, and this is the point, my system freezes....only can power off my machine.
I reboot the system, the effect is the same....cpu load go up to 100% and a moment later, the system freezes.
If someone need an event log for helping, please inform me, I can post it here.

I'm afraid I can't help, but I too have been having problems with the Firewall. I can't get it to turn on at all.

No other Security-Software is running, Windows-FW was diabled for Personal Network an Public Network.

quite a couple of entries in your hjt-log's system section (O23) state (file missing)
most r system related entries...!!!

Hi

Some Days ago I received a Mail from the support and a ticket, i'm sad that i'm unfortunately lost the mail.
The sender wants dumps of my system.
For this reason I made a new trial and installed again avast! Internet Security 5.0.462, and every thing was okay.
Some days befor I installed the Windows SDK for Windows 7 and Visual Studio Express 2008 because I need it for a Software-Project.
Perhaps the installation installed some libriaries, which Avast needs....I don't know.

Today, I'll try to make a boottime-defragmentation with Raxco Perfect Disc for VMware 10.116.
When Windows boots and the Perfect Disk tried to defragment the systemfiles, I got a BSoD.
Because Perfect Disk is the only program, I installed after my new trial with avast! Internet Security, I made a second trial with Perfect Disk's bootime-defragmentation of the systemfiles, with the same result as before.

So I can say, Perfect Disk causes my problem.

I uninstall avast with the uninstall-tool and tried again to make a boottime-defragmentation of the systemfiles.
Now everything runs without problems.
I suspect that something with the function of boottime-defragmentation of Perfect Disk conflicts with a function of avast! Internet Security 5.0.462. With the older version 418 there were no problems with Avast.

For me, it's not dramtical, I can live with this "problem".

Yes, perfectdisk using boot-time defrag and avast! firewall is a problem ....

According to PD, Avast is aware of it.  For now, I have uninstalled avast's firewall (I can live with microsoft's for now).
