trouble launching free avast 5
« on: March 23, 2010, 03:55:18 AM »
i had the previous free avast 4.8 antivirus and just updated to the new 5 version. it seemed to have me uninstall the old and then update the new. however, when i try to launch it now i get "the application has failed to start because its side-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail.  what now?

dubble,

Welcome to the forum.

I may suggest you do clean install.

1. Download avast uninstall utility: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility

2. Follow the step carefully, and uninstall avast (you may do it in safe mode).

3. Restart, and try install avast 5 freshly.

Please let us know if this works for you.
