WebShield Not Working

Each shield has its own .ini file WebShield.ini is the file you need to find (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Alwil Software\Avast5, windows XP location will differ in win7 and the folder may be hidden) the [WebScanner] section is still the section to edit.

i check the websield.ini in the ProgramData alwil folder and it didnt have that line im looking for either, and ther is no Alwil Software or avast folder in AppData on windows 7.

If the line isn't present then create the line within the [WebScanner] section as Tech mentioned in line 3 of the original instruction.

3. Add the line:
    EnableLogging=1

ye i realized now that u said ADD the line, i was looking for it   but anyways, did that, browsed several web pages, about 10-20. then checked the log file before and after disabling the webshield and both log files wer blank.

I would imagine if you either didn't Stop and restart the Web Shield or Reboot then the new settings in the ini file wouldn't be implemented.

i did stop then restart the webshield before i did the logging, and also after. i followed the instructions tech gave.

Well I don't know where the log file would be, if it would be in the web shield log or if it would be in the setup.log.

in Tech's post he said its in the log folder as AshWebSv and AshWebSv.ws. and both those files wer blank.

You could post the contents of the webshield.ini file to confirm the edit is correct, that is the only thing I can suggest.

OK, that looks OK, I will try a little test, I have just entered that option and restarted the Web Shield, which created the AshWebSv.log file at the time of restart. So I will do some browsing for a while and see what happens.

OK my little test is complete about 10 minutes of general browsing since my last post and my AshWebSv.log file is 65KB in size, so this appears to be working fine on my system.

yep, thats why i have no idea whats wrong with the webshield on my system, and without any real technical support from the people who actually make avast, it makes figuring this problem out quite difficult, is VLK missing in action or something cuz this sure as hell isnt a new thread by any means...

Well my only thought is if the web shield isn't working, as per this topics title then there will be nothing to populate the AshWebSv.exe, so it is a bit of a chicken and egg problem, you won't get the logging without the web shield scanning something.

I have been following this topic not too closely but it is almost 4am here so I can't go through it all again to see if there is something that has been missed in the suggestions.

well i decided to put in an official support ticket to avast since they dont seem to be visiting the forums anymore by the looks of it...

If you didn't put the topic link in the support ticket, I would suggest modifying it. Though that may drop it down the list.

this thread has been open for more than a month, i dont think its unreasonable to expect a response from staff in over a month... i dont see how they culd "miss" this particular thread for that long... and i did link this topic in the support ticket, wanna know what ther response was after all that? "uninstall and reinstall avast" to summarize.... its pathetic the kind of support im receiving from avast.
