:-\Exactly! u people arent getting my point and are just arguing about the specifics.

my point was, nobody from avast after all this time has even responded to this thread and the fact that tech might be the closest thing to do that, even tho he isnt part of avast is the sad part...

firzen771, some program is doing that, I mean, some conflict as WebShield is working like a charm in a lot of computers.
Maybe Comodo Time Machine? Did you revert your system to an old date? (I'm not sure if CTM allows excluding the avast folders from restoring).

agreed with Tech, if there's one thing that never brought any sort of trouble in Avast (V4 like V5), it's the web shield. It always works. If it doesn't, troubleshoot your system looking for conflicts with other security software. This said I wouldn't use that "time machine" even if I got paid for it...Comodo doesn't have the skills to develop stuff like that.

i already posted that i added CTM recently, as in this problem was around before i had CTM and its still here with CTM, so CTM is not the cause... and Antilogger might be the only program i have now that wasnt around last time i had avast installed and the webshield was working, so ill try removing Antilogger and see if anything changes.

Hmmm... any remains of other firewall or antivirus before installing avast?
Do you use a proxy?

an update about antilogger, i uninstalled it, did a registry cleanup and webshield problem was still there so Zemana antilogger wasnt the problem.

i do not use a proxy, i havent installed any 3rd party firewalls. and i had A-Squared before avast.

For version 4, I've used to post what I say bellow.
I'm not sure it works on version 5.

Quote
Can you activate logging in WebShield?
0. (Disable avast self-defense module: Program settings > Troubleshooting tab of settings.)
1. Edit <avast>\data\avast4.ini file with Notepad (or use step 0 with other text editors).
2. Find the section [WebScanner]
3. Add the line:
    EnableLogging=1
4. Restart Web Shield in XP\Vista (terminate and start again) or whole PC in case of Win98
5. Browse (trying to access some webpages)

The log file are <avast>\data\log\ashwebsv.log and ashwebsv.ws.
They would be accessible when WebShield is terminated again.
Post them here or send by mail to rypacek (at) asw.cz
After that, disable the logging to avoid a big log file.

Oh, enable the self-defense module again after that if you have to follow step 0.

i dont think those instructions work anymore since i cant fina any of the things that it showed for me to look for, the avast5.ini in ProgramData does not have a webscanner section in it and the only thing similar is webshield and it only has 1 option which isnt the one im looking for according to ur instructions, so ye i dont think they work anymore.

Each shield has its own .ini file WebShield.ini is the file you need to find (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Alwil Software\Avast5, windows XP location will differ in win7 and the folder may be hidden) the [WebScanner] section is still the section to edit.

i check the websield.ini in the ProgramData alwil folder and it didnt have that line im looking for either, and ther is no Alwil Software or avast folder in AppData on windows 7.

On Windows 7:
C:\Users\All Users\Alwil Software\Avast5
and avast program folder (where you've installed avast).

yeah...the "all users" folder in Win7 is just a junction  pointing to "Program Data". It's in fact the same folder ;)
