Error 0xc0000035
« on: March 25, 2010, 10:38:38 AM »
Hello,

Yesterday i installed avast 5 Free to my friend's pc. After installation completed, avast real time shield showed me about 12 virus alerts. One was very stubborn ( rootkit ) and although it was written that the threat was quarantined, the alert was coming continously. So i decided to perform a Boot-time scan. Avast found that rootkit and at first i decided to repair. It didnt repair it then i wanted to quarantine it. I saw this: Error 0xc0000035 ( File not found ) after quarantine. It gave the same error when i chose delete/ delete all . Then i had to choose ignore. After then i saw all the threats are quarantined automatically.

I want to ask why this problem occured. If  repair function is not available i could choose quarantine without problem. I guess for the new threats repair function is useless and there should be only quarantine and delete function for the new versions of avast.

Repair functions are only going to apply to files that have actually been infected by a virus, where the infected part may be able to be removed (if a repair routine is available for that infection). Whilst the rootkit file is completely malicious and not just infected there would be nothing to repair.

What would help would be the actual file name and location ?
Check this C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Alwil Software\Avast5\report\aswBoot.txt file using notepad it contains the results of the boot-time scan.

You're welcome, when we find out what the file name and location are it may give some clue as to why the file couldn't be found.
