Using Avast to bypass IMAP bad features
« on: July 05, 2004, 10:51:24 PM »
I use a notebook outside the LAN (with a standard IP address) and inside the LAN with a 192.168.*.* class address.
If you change server in the IMAP account information in Outlook, all messages are completely erased and downloaded again from the server (MDaemon, in my case).

So I leave AVAST manage the IMAP server, with localmachine (127.0.0.1) in Outlook and editing the "DefaultImapServer" with a batch procedure in avast4.ini file.

The problem is that with big messages Outlook stops downloading, pushing me in launching the send/receive tool many times to complete messages.

In the server log (MDaemon) it seems a problem of my local Outlook.
This what log says:
000T UID FETCH 2110;2111;2113;2120.... ETC....
Sending Fetch Response (not logged)
Socket Connection closed by other side (How rude!) ;-)
IMAP session abnormally terminated...

Any suggestion?

Thanks

Hi, thanks for your answer.

I use Outlook 2003 italian version.
I can't understand why, using Avast as a "bridge" to IMAP servers, big files downloads make the session prematurely end...

I experienced this kind of problem with different versions of MDaemon, Avast Home and OS (but I haven't got the occasion to test it with different Outlook versions).

Any info is welcome.

:-)

Bob, I don't think it will be a solution  :'(
That was for 'timeout' problems.
I've read this thread but I post nothing before because I don't know the answer... I do not use MS Outlook  8)

Yes,
I must be honest.
I had tried in the past a loto of things, including a change in the timeout setting on Mdaemon and Avast side, but it doesn't work.
This breaking up of messages downloading activity happens when all seems to work perfectly.

I will try to put the same issue in MDaemon Forum to see if it's a known issue there.

Another strange thing that happens using IMAP features in Outlook 2003, I know I'm sliping "off topic", is the automatic "read" notification that leave from Outlook with no way to stop it (the only way is to block TCP or other rude solutions like this). No config modification can help it.

Anyway thanks. I will provide any useful info I should eventually discover.

You should not change server adress to 127.0.0.1 in your Outlook 2003 account. Avast plugin for Outlook is integrated into Outlook and scans mail transparently.
