will not upgrade from 418 to 462, wrong os

I've installed Avast! and my current version is 5.0.418.  When trying to upgrade to 5.0.462, I get a message that I do not meet minimum requirements and must install on Windows 2000 or higher.  This machine runs Win 2k SP4 and the previous version of Avast! installed properly.

Help, please.

In addition to SP4, Update Rollup1 is required on Windows 2000.

furthermore it's allways adviced 2 install all the latest system-updates.! (on all systems/oss)
as i experienced on this forum, some users feel safe using only the newest vps/av-updates, totally ignoring their os-updates...

There is a further requirement:

You can install avast! only after the hotfix KB816542 is installed.
Use Windows Update or download it from Microsoft's website.

It's an interesting dilemma.  I'm not a huge fan of any windows software but I'm kind of stuck because of some windows-only software.  I have no interest in giving microsoft more money and win2k does what I need to do, at least for the moment.  I'm planning to set this machine to dual boot with Ubuntu.  I'll see how I like that.

It's not a question of "working", but a question of security.
But, as time goes on, also "working" will become a problem as more and more software will not run on Win2000.

I am very happy with Win7 though. It is a really good piece of software, and it is not that expensive. The home premium has everything you need as a standard user.

Ubuntu is great, but as you said: if you rely on a certain software that is only available for Windows, it is not the final solution.

have it on my system, in case of emergency, just 2 b able 2 start up & use the net.
but it shure can do much more than this..!
