win32 kernel
« on: July 06, 2004, 01:11:06 PM »
Hi,
my firewall detected an application called "win32 kernel core component" in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Kernel32.dll and apparently has a UDP protocal.
I scanned it with avast and kaspersky but they didn't pick it up as a virus, but because of its name and its way of trying to get onto the internet i became suspicious so i put it in the virus chest and put block on it with sygate , have i done the right thing?.

I then tryed a google search which turned up results by symantec and sophos saying it was a virus, but i felt it best to ask because i am not sure what to do, email to avast/deleat?.

I would say that kernel32.dll is the main part of your operating system - it certainly isn't a good idea to delete it.

If you use windows ME or XP, the file was already restored by system restore, so it is perfectly normal you saw that question. No harm done.
