Avast 5 Disable
« on: March 26, 2010, 07:01:12 AM »
I had trouble with my internet connection & narrowed it down to either Skype or Avast 5; I disabled Avast 5 & could not turn it back on again, so I decided to install the older version, I Tried to turn self defence off but every time it set itself again.
Anyone else come across this?

No I have not undergone to this...
If you have the Avast 5 installer, you can try to repair the installation....
Anyone who knows how to loose can certainly learn how to win.

Hi SHARKY7SHARKY,

Self defense is not part of avast! shields. It protects avast! from being terminated or modified so I don't think the Self Defense module would be the cause. Try repairing avast.

>> Repair avast! <<

1  Click Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
2  Select avast! Free/Pro/Internet Security antivirus
3  Click Change/Remove
4  Scroll down to see Repair. Click Repair then click Next
5  Follow the next prompts
6  Once done, restart your computer

EDIT: Typos

Windows 7 (64-bit) Home Premium SP1

Thanks for the reply, what I was saying is I tried to turn defence off so I could uninstall Avast 5 but it kept reactivating.
I have been running 4.8 for a few days’ I will try Avast 5 again today & see how it goes.
Also I will check to see if after disabling Avast it will reset itself to on.
