Avast 5 - Won't Accept Registration Key...

When I try to enter the license key, it says access denied... any ideas?

So why do you try to enter any key?
You can use the UI to register online.

that's what I did, registered online, got the license key, but when I try to enter it get the "access denied" error message.

Normally you don't receive any key for free - you just fill in the blanks, press send, and the ui switches to "registered"
