Avast Free with OutpostPro or OnlineArmorPremium?
« on: March 30, 2010, 02:54:36 AM »
I'm wondering if there is any conflict as there seems to be some overlap, maybe in antispyware.  And do firewalls that have HIPS conflict at all with Avast Free?  Should I be going for a more basic version of either of these?  (Please do not suggest windows firewall).

Running Win7Pro 64bit (I know OA is not yet 64bit compatible but will be very shortly).

Thank you.........

avast free has no problems with 3rd party firewalls as it is only an antivirus (antimalware) application, not a suite or firewall (like AIS).

I've been running Avast! V5 along side Outpost Firewall Pro 2009 since Avast! V5 was released with no adverse effects.  ;D
A clear conscience is a sign of a bad memory.

I am running Avast! 5 on two machines along with OA++ with no problems, even with the added AV of OA++.
Windows 7 x64HP-SP1-No UAC, Opera 11.51, Avast! Internet Security 6.0.128, Webroot SecureAnywhere latest beta, Windows FW off, MVPS HOSTS, SAS/MBAM offline, Macrium Reflect just in case ;)

The integration of A2 with OA is configured so as not to interfere with on-access scanners like Avast!  Prevx also runs very well with both; yet another AV/AM that purposely avoids contention.  Not something to do without local knowledge, though.  ;)  Or with most suites.

Hi zekeblue :)

I would wait if I were you, and try both OA and OP to see which one you like more. Both are very good firewalls and perform nicely with Avast! 5 free :)

I have been using Outpost firewall pro ans avast from some years an no real issues. Nothing has changed with avast 5.0 and outpost firewall pro 2009, they both work fine together. Outpost should detect avast and disable its own anti-spyware module for compatibility.

Thanks for the continued input.

Outpost did not disable its spyware module.  I currently have disabled it, and web shield, manually as I am having some internet access issues that I'm still troubleshooting.

What are the connection issues, e.g. error messages, etc. ?

It was a typical "File not Found" page in Fx.  But I have switched over to Online Armor Free to give it a go and am having better results.  I tend to like the interface better as well.

Thanks for replying.
