Can the Phishing filter be turned off?
« on: February 08, 2011, 11:29:15 PM »
Hi

Wondering can the Phishing filter be turned off for a particular website or all together? I only ask because there is a website I use that requires quick refreshing repeatedly and that seems to slow down that process (or am I imaging it). Truth be told I notice it a lot lately on all sites. That little "!" is driving me crazy and costing me auction bids plus a general annoyance. I'm using Explore 7 if that makes any difference or helps answering my question.

Thanks

What "Phishing Filter"?  ???  Are you referring to the Web or Network Shields?

I Think The OP Is referring to the old Phishing Filter That was in IE7  which is now the IE Smartscreen filter.
OS: Windows 11 64-bit
Webbrowser: Mozilla Firefox

Forgive my ignorance I just assumed it was Avast but I really don't know the difference. It's the green load box on the IE bar that will once in a while have a "!" on it when loading.  When I see it I move my cursor over it and it will say Phishing Filter. I'm now feeling real foolish for asking what may seem like a obvious question.

Is having the old IE7 causing my problem or will it occur if I go to IE8 too?

Bah, no shame at all, fools don't ask any questions, they only act on assumptions  ;)

But I'm far from qualified to tell tou to turn off anything IE security related, except to tell you you should update to IE8 for general security reasons,  I'm pretty much IE-illiterate.

Thanks!

Was just about to download IE8 right before I read your post. I never have in the past just out of fear something would either go wrong and loose something or it would be way different than IE7....I don't do different too well.

Thank you all. I may have learned a thing or two.

Yep, that is a fortunate side effect of Avast! forums.  ;)
