Numbers are meaningless, because different companies use different ways of counting detected virus.
Is it by family of virus or each different varient in the family.
You can't make a decision based on numbers alone. You have to not only check detection, but what different protection it provides, on-access, on-demand, email, IM, P2P, etc. The AV program must suit your needs or it doesn't matter how many viri it sposedly dectects.
