Hmm, still no luck with 499 on Vista Ultimate 32.  The UI crashes with the free version as well (see attached).  I've tested the release version again though, and that's fine.

Btw, yes I know Vista sucks.  My home machine is Windows 7 Ultimate and is a big improvement. I'm keeping most of our office on XP and then skipping a generation  8).  Sadly though we have to run a mixed bag of OSes to allow us to support clients stuck with Vista etc.

When i run a systemscan and minimize the scanwindow it didn't go into the taksbar but disapeared to the lower left of the screen as a little bar which doesn't show any information and can't be maximized anymore.

Are you using the .499 build?

This did happen with the scan results before but that was fixed...

Which window is it that you are minimising?

You should just be able to double click it to restore it IIRC

Asyn, I've re-downloaded twice, and also downloaded the free version as well as pro, to double check. The installer says 499, but the exe, as you quite rightly say, is 498!

All were downloaded from those links on page 1 of this thread, yesterday.

Strange...???
You could try to use the uninstall utility first and reinstall again....

It isn't too strange as this is a pre-release, so some of the file properties may well reflect the last build number. This has happened in the past but when released the file properties should reflect the correct build number. What is more important is what avast reports as the actual build in about avast, etc.

Asyn - deinstalled/reinstalled several times, and used cleanup utility in safe mode, and checked registry for any mention of avast, - and also reverted to 5.0462, then back up to 5.0499 twice...same result every time  :'( The next thing for me to try is the couple of sister machines of this PC to see if they show the same behaviour.

Just a Off Topic Question

Why do some programs crash in Vista?

Good idea! See if it happens on the other machines, too. It could also be a conflict with some drivers or other software. (eg. some dell drivers, fingerprint-reader drivers,...)

@DavidR: It isn't about the version shown on his system, but about the crashing of the avastui.exe
But many thanks for your input about the pre-release builds not always showing the correct version. :)

another virtualization issue

when running an app (eg Firefox) virtualized, and a file is downloaded to a safe location (excluded from the sandbox), this safe location being an EFS encrypted folder, the file is saved not encrypted ???

I forgot to ask something: if I update from 4.8 to 5.0 via right click on A-ball -> Program Update (directly, without uninstalling 4.8 manually), will the 5.0 installation offer me Google Chrome or will it install automaticaly with it or without it maybe?
