I just got notified through the external
updater of a new version and  went from there
and updated to latest version...
My question being if this is RC or BETA release
should that of happened? thanks

Neither really, it is a pre-release version in the same way as 5.0.499 and 5.0.492 were, it hasn't been released as a regular update yet.

then back to my question
if its not final why would it come through
the external update function...argo
if one does not know about beta and the mis-haps
it can cause it has no business updating like that right? ;)

If you had v.499 installed, then you should have gotten a notification since you're using the beta or pre-release version already.
If that's not the case then I don't have a clue.  ;D

Hmm, still no luck with 499 on Vista Ultimate 32.  The UI crashes with the free version as well (see attached).  I've tested the release version again though, and that's fine.

Hi Yandros,
the crashing should be fixed now, read here and try again: :)

I forgot to ask something: if I update from 4.8 to 5.0 via right click on A-ball -> Program Update (directly, without uninstalling 4.8 manually), will the 5.0 installation offer me Google Chrome or will it install automaticaly with it or without it maybe?

You can choose if you want to install it. ;)

HI,
I have just updated from 4.8 free to 5 AIS (for which I paid for).  I initially installed 5.0.462. I got the "blue screen" during the install process, but the machine rebooted fine.  Avast would load, but the services and shields would not start.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and still I got the "UNSECURED" indication.  When I click on the Fix button, the cursor hourglass flashes a few times, but the shields do not start.

I downloaded the 5.0.504 beta version and installed over the top of 5.0.462 and still have the Unsecured message, including the "X" through the Avast icon on the system tray.

I an running a fully updated version of XP Pro SP3.

Any good ideas from here?

Go to    Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Avast5   click on change/delete (or similar, don't have XP here to see the correct wording). In the Avast installer, scroll down on the left side to "Repair". Run it. Reboot.

Problem gone?

If not: please start a new thread for further assistance.
Thx

I think I am seeing a fading effect when I click the different tabs like Summary, Scan Computer etc

 ;D

Or maybe I am noticing it just now

been smoking anything special lately ??? (just kidding ;) )...no, there's no fading effect, at least here. You may have a graphics driver issue...

I am not sure if I was smoking something  :P

But I really see an effect here but I don't know if it is fading or blinking or something..

Just some effect

I did not know there was a problem with Acronis True Image as I have that on my XP Pro system.

Updated both systems with built in update and all seems well.  :)

Hi Zyndstoff,

Tried all that and it did not work.  Spent a few hours reading the forum and downloaded the Cleanup utility.  Ran it in Safe mode and then reinstalled 5.0.504 again.

Worked like it was susposed to.  Thanks!!  ;)

Question - What does the cleanup utility remove that the Uninstall process does not ??
