I try it on a windows 98 test machine and the client works fine.

But I installed the two client at the same mode.  

On 1 client works fine with ADNM Console and on the other not.

Hmm, it really seems that the MDAC/Jet install on that machine is somehow damaged...

Maybe you could try to reinstall avast on that machine...?

I try to reinstall Avast Network client on Windows 98 machine (where i update MDAC with the last version).

Here is the error log:
