Hi dukoba, welcome to the forum :)

Try disabling the self defense before you perform the update.

Open avast GUI --> settings --> troubleshooting --> Uncheck 'Enable self defense...'

Remember to do re-enable it after.

Strange... The user shouldn't change the self defense module to update...
If the error persists after booting, I'll repair/reinstall avast.

We found this to happen in the .462 version and self defense was the culprit. I could even reproduce it.

I have tried to test with the latest beta, but that says it it not compatible...

What is not compatible?
It's a bug that can't persist... It's illogical that you need to disable the avast self-defense to auto update it ::)

The vpsupd.exe and 5.0.492 beta - I can't check whether self defense still interferes...

i agree it should not be the case that self defense needs disabling, but that is how it is. (was?)

Hope it is temporary for the beta.
But the OP has problems with online update I suppose.
