That's a Microsoft Outlook Error message, not an Avast one. ;)

Use the detect and repair in Outlook.

What avast version are you using 4.8 or 5.0 ?

If using avast 5.0 this is a reference in MS Outlook to the old 4.8 avast plug-in, check MS Outlook for avast plug-in and remove any 4.8 version.

Okay, got that removed, now to add-in Avast 5 and get Avast 4 off the list. :S

Any suggestions or does it just run quietly in the background with no splash screen on opening Outlook?

When you startup Outlook you would normally get a splash screen to let you know the avast plugin is running. You can of course have the splash screen disabled.

I got it, I had to delete extend.dat to get the most updated add-in re-enabled.

I got the right splash screen, but you are right, I really don't want it. It is just an additional moment I have to wait to get my e-mail. I will start digging in avast to find how to turn it off. avast needs a few keyboard shortcuts. I need to buy a new mouse, because the one I am using is dying and a pain to use right now.

Now onto the next problem with avast...new thread though...this is solved rather nicely. :)

EDIT: No new thread, covered nicely in a current thread. I think I am all set up now. Thanks!

When you want to use keyboard shortcuts, press "Alt" :)

No problem, glad I could help...

I forgot about having to delete extend.dat to get the most updated add-in re-enabled, not being an MS Outlook user.

You will get used to the new GUI fairly quickly and there aren't too many different levels, just a matter of used too your way round it.

I don't believe it is a case of not knowing how to initiate keyboard shortcuts, but Lady Aleena suggesting avast have some keyboard shortcuts for some of its settings/areas ;D

Yeah, with my mouse on the fritz, avast is kind of hard to navigate with just the arrow keys.
