AVAST 5 web problem
« on: May 20, 2010, 12:53:52 PM »
I installed avast 5 after my previous version was about to expire.
Now, whenever I'm surfing (either by firefox or internet explorer) avast stops working and I get this following message:
"The avast! antivirus program has been stopped, or is an inconsistent state..."
When I click on the "Fix Now" button, the program starts to run for a few seconds, but then stops again.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall the program twice, but it didn't fix the problem.
I don't have this problem if I don't surf the web.
I use an adsl dial-up connection, windows xp.
Any suggestions?

Try this

uninstall avast 5 and reboot
then run uninstaller for any previous antivirus installed including avast 4.8 and reboot ( to remove any leftovers )
you can find uninstallers here http://uninstallers.blogspot.com/
install avast 5 again, and reboot

did it work.....?

I suggest an installation from the scratch:

1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you've run it.
5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
7. Check and post the results.
