web shield making cgi:irc webchats lag
« on: April 13, 2010, 12:46:56 AM »
Cant use any cgi:irc webchats with Avasts web-shield on. Its either will block connection to chat server or if connected chat will have big delays on sending messages. Searching the forum this issue was around since 4.7 version, but wasn't fixed since then.
You can test on http://cgiirc.blitzed.org/irc.cgi http://chat.efnet.org/irc.cgi or any other you'll find.

IRC doesn't run on port 80 at all, so the web shield can't scan you chats...and cannot interfere.

I think you misunderstood the issue described... it's a webapp which acts as a web interface to IRC. Something like http://www.meebo.com/ for the other IMs out there. Anyway, cannot reproduce.

yes its webapp irc client . To reproduce - use any web irc.cgi client(links in first post). Try to connect to any channel and write something in chat. After writing and sending message u have to wait around 10+ seconds for message to appear in chat window, or it will have one message delay(when sending message u get your previous one shown instead of current). if web-shields is turned off the issues are gone.

no I didn't misunderstand anything, I had a doubt when I saw the "IRC" interface could be launched directly from a browser page... but as I've never used that before I went the "IRC" way just in case some sort of actual IRC client would be launched...and that wasn't relevant here obviously. Now, there must be a way to do something through the exclusion list... after taking a look of what's being exactly scanned by the WebShield.

I have to manualy add every irc.cgi website to exclude scanning list, to make them work correctly. Never seen this kinda problem in any other AV i used.
