Great!

Had problems with previous versions. Had switched back to version 4. Today, installed 507 over v4 and voila! everything is just fine.

Thanks

That's good news.  8)

Now you need to update your Windows XP Pro SP3 system.

Am I able to stay with version 462 and not update to 507 and still receive up to date virus definitions?

The reason is that when I installed 507,BSOD's galore when browsing using Firefox.Removed 507 and cleaned up with with v5 removal tool.Still had the 462 version file on my PC and so far,is stable as it was before.

Uploaded the minidumps to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming but no response from Alwil    >:(

Downloaded th new version yesterday, and install it today (free version).
Works great and also scanning my complete system (xp - sp3) now doesnt take hours (or a day).
Woow it's fast now with scanning  ;D

What i'm missing is the option block urls so i hope some can say where it is.
In the help it's also talking about this, but i can't find it.
I know in 4.8 it was there and i can find it with my eyes closed, but now i can't find it  :(

For the program itself thx team for the up, and good work.

I am a newie here,BUT having just downloaded the new Avast program,I am having BIG drama with firewalls.
I am unable to locate the firewall as I require it to unblock a program that I have downloaded.
Can any one assist with how to locatew and programe the firewall in Avast.

Which avast 5 did you download? (Free/Pro/AIS)

It is only Avast 5 Internet Security that have the firewall

  • If at first you don’t succeed; call it version 1.0

Hi, PHFM, welcome to the forum.

It would be best to start a new topic in this sub forum; the "new topic" button is near the top right of the thread list.

In this thread please list your OS, Avast version installed, any previous AV or firewall installed, even if removed, and the name of the program you've downloaded, plus any information about messages displayed regarding blocking of same. Where did you get this downloaded program that is blocked?
Windows 10,Windows Firewall,Firefox w/Adblock.

It's not Avast's firewall stopping you.
Avast free doesn't have one.
Once again, what error messages?
Is it this echolink?
Windows 10,Windows Firewall,Firefox w/Adblock.

Well, I was able to fix the problem from someone in another thread. He pointed to the install image of the multi-lingual version of version .507 and now I'm all up to date:

Now, hopefully when the next version is released, it will update the engine without any issues.

Unfortunately URL blocking feature in Web shield is removed on Free/Pro. Only Avast Internet Security has this feature now.
