but if i compare the avast database to kaspersky,dr.web,f-prot,norton,f-secure....is poor
Don't forget that many vendors include ALL the different strings of the main virus in there "online" (webpage) & "inscanner" database, and others vendors only place the main virus string in there database, although they detect the same (many) strings of the orginal virus.
So thats why there's sometimes such a big difference in the amount of different virusses included in the AV's database.
This gives a false image, as most of the AV programs detect excatly the same virusses.
A large database doesn't mean its a safe scanner. There are TO many other things (parameters) that makes a scanner "good" or "bad". like unpacker engine, and heurisic.
