Avast warning error, infected?
« on: July 10, 2004, 05:11:23 PM »
I have a 120gb hd i use to store all my files, im pretty sure its infected.
Files on it seem to be getting corrupted, as well as files on my main drive when i have it set as slave.

Ive been running mcafee since ive been online, its hasnt found anything on either drives.

at this point im pretty positive im infected and nothing is finding it...

I uninstalled mcafee and im running the freeware version of avast!.

ive tryed scanning 3 times, and it has froze about halfway through the scan each time.

earlier when i updated the virus database it came back with gibberish for the version...
then i closed and opened it and it gave me a popup warning saying the there was unauthorized modification, and i should not continue.

is this just an error or is it possible Avast! is now infected?

i restarted my computer and it looks to be ok now... but im suspicious.

Any info, advice and such appreciated! thanks!

go to start   settings   control panel  add/remove progams then
select avast! and choose repair.
next REBOOT then do a manual update      rightclick on the blue a ball then select  updating and iAVS Update.
Hope this solves your problem.

Also, you may wanna check your PC using great online scanner HOUSECALL by Trend Micro... just in case...

Anyway, you should listen to Bob and do what he suggested.

Cheers !

*Smacks Forehead*

I found the major problem that was causing everything, Bad Memory Stick.
It was corrupting, Losing and Breaking up files.

Everything seems to be running smoothly after replacing the memory and fresh installing my OS for the 4th time.

Thanks for the advice and help though!

Yeah, I'm glad you fixed it. Bad memory stick, hehe... usually you'll get million different error messages in Windows when you log on... messages and error codes are every single time totally different... that points to bad memory module.

Cheers !
