No scans?

Hi, I just installed Avast 5 free version to my mothers desktop computer, which has XP as its OS, and when i click on avast and go to the 'scan computer' option on the side bar, the icons appear but but there is no writing and i cant start any of the scans. Anyone know how to solve this problem?

Did you Reboot after the install, if not do so.

If you did, reboot again as a few have reported they had to do it more than once.
