I'm Confused

Im slightly confused, is it safe to tun both avast and a spyware prog like windows defender at the same time?

avast and windows defender shouldn't conflict.

Generally the only thing to worry about is two resident anti-viruses installed. The same general rule applies to resident anti-spyware programs. But a resident anti-virus and resident anti-spyware should still be able to run together. I have had SuperAntiSpyware (SAS) Pro running with avast for a few years and many avast users have MBAM Pro running with avast without problem.

Keep Windows Defender updated throug its portal:

Get the latest definitions
Latest definition version: 1.79.1994.0

Install the latest Windows Defender definition updates
