Folder scan parameters is all grayed out

If you select the settings under Folder Scan you cannot select a folder--it is grayed out.  I see that you can select "start" and then select a folder, but why is the first window grayed out?

BTW, this new version is fabulous.  Cudos to everyone.

I tend not to use that option, however, on checking mine too is greyed out. This I do recall was working on earlier versions of avast 5.0.

I presume that this is the pre-defined folder scan?

That is why this behavior is so, as it is set to specify which folder to scan when it is run, if you were to select a folder in the settings it would then be limited to that folder every time.

OK, it seems to me that there is a chicken and egg situation going on here. I didn't twig on that you said you can't select the folders until you click Start (bonkers), clicking Start. Personally I think that setting should be part of the settings, which shouldn't be remembered after the scan. Or if you wanted that you should create a Custom scan.

I don't recall if that is the way it used to work.

Well that is what it says in the description of the scan.

Performs a full scan of a custom folder (to be selected when the scan is started)

It has to be this way, as it is a somewhat "dynamic" scan, that is that it has no set location to scan. It is told where to scan each time.

If you were to edit the scan areas, then you would be creating a specific, non changing scan, so a custom one.

That is why I said the areas selected shouldn't be remembered or carried forward to subsequent scans.

My point is in the logic, who first clicks Start on a Folder selection scan, most people (certainly me) would be looking for the areas they want to select before clicking Start.

I now understand, but I agree with DavidR, it is not very logical.  You would think that you should select something before hitting start.  I only found the correct way by hitting start.
